Brewers Dried Yeast (not
used in Holistic Select® Formulas) |
| Q: |
Does this
ingredient cause yeast / fungus infections? |
|
A: |
No. These infections are caused by
Candida Albicans, a parasitic, yeast-like fungus that inhabits the
intestines, genital tract, mouth, esophagus and throat. Normally it
lives in conjunction with other bacteria in the body. Certain
conditions cause an imbalance and thus an overgrowth.

DHA / Brain Food |
| Q: |
Is this in
your foods? |
|
A: |
It is in all our foods as a component
of Omega 3 fatty acids. While others are just now discovering its
benefits, we have been aware of its benefits and have added it to
our foods since 1985. Additional amounts are added to our
puppy formulas. |

Fillers |
| Q: |
What are
‘fillers? |
|
A: |
The answer to that can lead to big
arguments. Fillers have no nutritional value. We look at wheat mids and peanut hulls as fillers. Some
pet owners consider grains/carbohydrates as fillers. They are not
‘fillers’ if formulated correctly, i.e. not listed first in the
ingredient panel. Used correctly, carbohydrates provide specific
nutritional value. |

Kitchen Sink Approach to Formulating Foods |
| Q: |
What do they mean
by this? |
|
A: |
They are referring to inclusion of
multiple ingredients in the formula. For the 80-90% of healthy,
allergy-free pets, that’s a good thing, as each ingredient
contributes its own special nutrient profile. That way, no wellness
nutrient gets left out. Also, by including 3-different meat meal
proteins in a formula it limits the amount of any one, thus reducing
the chance of an allergic reaction. If a pet has an allergy, IBD,
crystals or some other health issue, then you want to limit
ingredients. We make both types of formulas. |

Meat Meal |
| Q: |
What does meat
meal mean? |
|
A: |
Meat meal, as in Chicken Meal
for example, is derived from chicken meat, not by-products. *
The 70% water is removed from the meat to form a concentrated
protein meal. It is 91% digestible and 11-times more protein
concentrated than meat. Brands that tout ‘real chicken or real beef”
for example, count the weight of the water. With the water removed,
it would drop from the first listed ingredient to about 7th. Now
look at the ingredients that come ahead of it.

*If derived from chicken by-products, it must be
called Chicken By-Product Meal. |

Organic |
| Q: |
Are your foods
organic? |
|
A: |
Some formulas contain organic
ingredients. While not 100% organic, all formulas follow the organic
concept and are made with antibiotic free meat meal proteins, with
no added hormones. Grains are pesticide free. |
| |
|
|
Pork |
| Q: |
Why do you
use Pork? |
|
A: |
Pork is hypoallergenic, is one the
3-most digestible animal meal proteins and today is parasite free.
It is expensive so is not often used by other brands.

PETA |
| Q: |
Why aren’t
you listed by PETA? |
|
A: |
We prescribe to their philosophy of
humane treatment of animals and their position on research animals.
Our policy position is stated on our home page. There are other
issues where we disagree. |

Prescription Diets |
| Q: |
My vet recommended
a Prescription food. I absolutely hate the ingredients and my dog
won’t eat it. Do you have an alternative? |
|
A: |
It depends what issue your pet is
facing. See our Testimonials and our
Pet Health page for detailed
information. |

Puppy Food & Large/Giant Puppies |
| Q: |
I am being told
not to feed puppy food to my large/giant puppy. Why? |
|
A: |
Some companies did not
understand the special nutritional requirements for these breeds.
They formulated diets too high in protein, fat, calories, incorrect
energy and calcium levels, and did not have Eagle Pack’s exclusive
SQM® vitamin-mineral inclusion or our 15-years experience. Their
oversight led to serious bone growth
diseases. Eagle Pack’s Large & Giant Breed Puppy Formula is
based on an adult formula, then nutritionally modified for puppies.
Eagle Pack has more success formulating diets for these breeds than
any other company…we are not experimenting on your dog. |

|
Stopped Eating |
| Q: |
My dog stopped
eating your food. |
|
A: |
After your pet has been on Eagle
Pack for 30-60 days she may back off on amount consumed. This is
because certain nutrients were missing from the previous brand. Once
on Eagle Pack it takes 30-60 days for your pets system to catch up.
Once it reaches optimum levels, your pet will not need as much food.
Also, at six and twelve months of age, as their growth slows, their
food requirements become less, so they will cut back. |

|
Supplementing |
| Q: |
Should I
supplement my pet’s food? |
|
A: |
Not if it is a pet
food from Eagle Pack's family of foods. We were
the first to ask vets, breeders, kennel owners, retailers, show and
field people and nutritionists, what they were adding. We researched
each supplement. Those that proved effective were added to our
formulas. The many individual supplements you see advertised
probably should be added to most other brands, but not to Eagle
Pack; we have done that for you on a balanced basis. These
holistic supplements are
included to maintain overall wellness and to help resolve
health issues your pet may have. |
